"York was one of the first universities I visited, and I was impressed from the very beginning. I loved the sense of community and friendliness that came with a campus university. The electronics department has a good range of facilities, including a well equipped hardware lab, a clean room and an anechoic chamber, all of which students get the opportunity to use in their degrees. There are also lots of social opportunities; hundreds of societies and sports clubs to accommodate everyone's needs, and plenty of places to go to in town, whether you're into live music, clubbing, or just a quiet drink.

I'm studying for a MEng degree in Electronic Engineering, a 4 year course. Much of the first two years of my course was spent learning the basic principles of electronics, giving everyone a fundamental understanding of most branches of electronics. In the third and fourth years, we were given many more module choices. For me, this made the course even more enjoyable, as it gave me the chance to study in the areas I was particularly fascinated by. While this does give you the chance to specialize, I chose to cover a broad range of subjects, because at the time I was unsure what field I wanted to work in.

Now I'm in my final year of my degree, I've started looking for jobs. As well as the university careers service, the department has its own careers advisor with experience in the industry, which is really useful for finding out answers to specific questions about engineering jobs. The department has also arranged numerous careers talks and presentations by employers specifically looking for electronic engineering students. Electronics remains to be a growing industry, and along with the support the department and the rest of the university has provided, I've already received a job offer.

York has been a fantastic experience for me, giving me endless opportunities to get involved in social and academic activities, and preparing me for the rest of my life.
