Biomedical Engineering: Projects

Work in this area focuses upon the application of evolutionary algorithms, signal processing and computer vision methods to problems in biomedical classification, diagnosis and understanding. We have successfully applied these methods to a number of biomedical problems, including the diagnosis of neurological diseases (particularly Parkinson\'s and Alzheimer\'s), the automated interpretation of mammograms, visualisation of heart scans, and the development of predictive computer interfaces for disabled users.

Diagnosis of Neurological Disease using Evolutionary Classifiers

Members: Steve Smith, Michael Lones, David Halliday

This project uses novel evolutionary algorithms to induce classifiers capable of recognising the symptoms of neurological diseases such as Parkinson's and Alzheimer's.
