The Bio-Inspired Architectures Laboratory undertakes research on novel electronic and computational systems whose designs are motivated by biological principles of organisation and operation. The aim of our research is to create architectures which have advanced capabilities such as adaptation, evolution, growth, healing, replication, and learning. Our research covers the spectrum of activities from detailed biological modelling to the application of hardware and software systems within real world problem domains. Our work focuses upon three main areas: artificial immune systems, evolvable and developmental hardware, and genetic programming.
