Memory Group Findings and Proposals

There were a number of aspects which we were going to look at:

  • modelling, simulation and algorithm development in regard to memory - making sure a clear distinction is known;
  • the different purposes/functions of memory;
  • clarity to existing information;
  • a defined scope in which the work can exist.

We would examine in more depth the uses of memory concepts, how the responses are initiated, and investigate a number of the numerous theories that exist.

It would be interesting to look at factors such as residual antigens, networks, complex interactions, class switching, and distributed memory which provide explanations for memory creation.

In addition it would be valuable to look at the ability to forget what is not important, representing a form of tolerance.

It would also be interesting to look at how immune memory changes with age.

Evaluation of the influence of cytokines on memory.

Memory Group Tasks Planned

  • produce a review of up to date literature on immunology
  • produce a review of AIS uses of memory and compare that with immunology, and perhaps uncover some of the holes
  • develop a web based information repository
  • look at intracellular communication
  • define memory within AIS and to be as clear as possible for these definitions
  • look at the key features to develop algorithms for AIS
  • exchange relevant papers within the group to enhance knowledge of the subject area.
